You know those times when you are consistently working out, eating really well, feeling awesome, you look good…..
And then you stop. Because you get too busy, you have no time, you are too tired, etc.
Life does and can get in the way.
If this is a constant cycle in your life- starting & stopping plus all of the feelings that go along with it, there is something else going on…and that is so intriguing to me.
I posted a quote the other day,
“If you do or don’t do something, it’s because of how you feel”.
Think about it, if there’s something you really want to do, you are going to do it. How many times have you stayed up late reading a really good book? You know you should go to bed, but you want to read one more chapter. Do you feel guilty about that? Probably not. Or when you go out with the guy that everyone is telling you to stay away from, but you don’t want to- so you don’t. You listen to your feelings (even if you should have listened to your friends in retrospect but that’s another story!). Or what about when your gut is telling you not to do something…and you listen to it- you are not doing that particular thing because of how you feel. And it’s usually the right thing to do.
We listen to how we are feeling quite a lot. But why don’t we figure out what we are feeling when we continuously do the same thing over and over and expect different results? Instead of blaming outside circumstances (work, family, tired, etc.), let’s take a look at what’s really going on.
I’ll give you an example. Lately (like the whole summer), I haven’t been working
at all very much. I am an active person and like to do quick Pilates and strength training workouts a few times per week. My eating has been good, so it’s not like I am dealing with huge changes here but what bugs me is the question of *why* am I not working out? I know what to do, I have the same time available as before, I’m just as tired as always 😉 so what is my deal???
And this is what intrigues me. What is my feeling behind why I am not doing this?
I have good intentions, but am not producing. And I know I’m not alone in this. Can you relate?
Each month in my coaching group we tackle a mindset topic; we learn to become aware of and overcome blocks that keep us stuck. And I truly feel that these mindset blocks are WAY more important than any exercise or diet. Mindset is what makes you do something, or stops you from doing something. It really prevents you from moving forward in your life….you stay right where you are…which is totally fine, as long as you are not complaining about where you are.
You have to be willing to do the work and look inside for the answers. And it’s not always easy. There are some members in my coaching group that won’t even contemplate doing the mindset work, they want the workouts and that’s all. And again, that’s totally fine, but I’m all about doing what works and being efficient. There is a reason why you are not doing what you want to do. There is something behind it all whether it is fear of failure, lack of love for yourself or fear of change.
I’d be a bad coach if I didn’t share this. It’s such a game changer.
My goal is to get as many people as possible to jump in and finally break out of the ruts/insanity/stories that limit them by doing some inner work. We work out and we work in.
I teach Pilates; the complete combination of mind, body & spirit. My hope is to help people focus on the mind to make positive changes for the body and spirit.
Now back to figuring out my own mindset, so I can get myself moving again!
What are your thoughts? I’d love to hear!
